Team Leader of Business Support Desk at DLL

DLL is a global asset finance company for equipment and technology in more than 25 countries. The company partners with equipment manufacturers, dealers, distributors, as well as end users, to enable businesses to access equipment, technology, and software more easily.

To support these operations, DLL used an app as an essential tool for dealers and area sales managers. This app enabled them to create tailored offers for loans, leases, and financial products, facilitating transactions during client meetings, often on the go.

While the app was widely used, its underlying framework presented significant challenges for the company. The platform was built on a framework that was nearing the end of its support lifecycle. Additionally, the app had separate versions for differing operating models, which required maintaining two distinct apps. This duplication of effort added to the complexity, driving up development costs and causing delays in release cycles. Over time, these limitations made the platform harder to manage and scale effectively.

“Maintaining two separate apps had become costly and inefficient, and with the framework reaching the end of its support, it was clear we needed to take action,” shared a DLL representative. Our goal was to create a solution that would free us of technical debt and deliver a better user experience while laying a foundation for future growth.”

Two apps into one

After thoroughly evaluating potential technologies, Uptime and DLL decided to transition to an upgraded application platform. The shift would eliminate the need for two separate native mobile apps, creating a single, web-based solution that provided the same user experience across devices.

The new solutionis easily scalable and free of technological debt. “It’s fresh, it can be updated continuously, and we’ve also added tools to monitor the quality,” said Rafal Szybowski, Team Lead at Uptime. “This new technology allows us to add or change features faster and cost-effectively.”

Enhanced functionality and user experience

The development of this application brought significant improvements for both users and DLL’s overall workflow. While 90% of the existing functionalities from the original application were retained—ensuring continuity for familiar processes—several critical enhancements were introduced:

  • Electronic credit applications: Applications can now be completed digitally, removing the need for physical paperwork and streamlining workflows.
  • Enhanced offer creation process: A new step-by-step wizard allows users to view progress, jump between steps, and track their current status seamlessly.
  • More intuitive user experience: Improved UX design makes navigating the app easier.
  • Future-ready self-service functionality: The platform is on track to allow end clients to manage offers and transactions independently, automating DLL Sales processes.

Once the application was launched, user feedback played a critical role in validating its success. Early testing, including open days with users like students and sales managers, highlighted how the improved UX design made the application far more intuitive and efficient.

Adoption rates were also high, thanks to careful change management, including a month-long overlap between the old and new apps. This allowed users to transition seamlessly at their own pace, reducing disruption to their daily operations.

Szybowski highlighted the success of the collaboration, emphasizing the importance of DLL’s willingness to embrace change. “DLL’s open-minded approach to a new solution really made the difference. Now, looking at the results, it’s clear that this indeed was the perfect fit for this project,” he concluded.
