Loyalty and bonus platforms

Points, tiers, wallets and reward engines that behave the same in the shop, at the till and online — because a loyalty scheme is only as good as its worst channel.

What a loyalty platform has to get right

  • Points, tiers and reward rules

Earning and redemption rules held as configuration rather than code, so a campaign can be changed by the people who run campaigns.

  • Virtual wallets and balances

Balances that are correct in real time across channels, with a full ledger behind them so any figure can be explained line by line.

  • Campaign and segment targeting

Offers aimed at segments drawn from the customer record, with eligibility resolved at the moment of purchase rather than the night before.

  • Till and online shop parity

The same rules applied at the cash register and in the shop, including the edge cases — partial returns, mixed baskets, expired points.

  • Fraud and abuse controls

Velocity limits, duplicate detection and audit trails, because a reward engine is also a payment system pointed at your margin.

  • Reporting on scheme economics

What the scheme costs, what it returns and where the liability sits — reported to finance, not only to marketing.

Points earned at the till have to mean the same thing in the app

Most loyalty complaints are consistency complaints: a balance that differs between the receipt and the app, a reward that applies online but not in store, points that vanish after a return. Each one erodes the scheme faster than any campaign builds it.

We treat the balance as a ledger with a single source of truth, make every channel read from it, and design the failure behaviour — what the till does when the platform is unreachable — before the happy path is finished.

One ledger
Every point movement recorded and explainable.
Channel parity
Identical rules at the till, online and in the app.
Offline tolerant
Tills keep selling when the platform is unreachable.
Configurable
Campaigns changed without a software release.
Abuse controls
Velocity limits and duplicate detection built in.
Liability visible
Outstanding point liability reported to finance.

A lottery and bonus system spanning the tills, the CRM and the online shop

For Coop we built a lottery bonus system with a virtual wallet, where the balance had to be identical whether the customer looked at a receipt, the app or the online shop. The engineering was in the consistency: real-time balance updates across the cash registers, the receipt system, the CRM and the shop, with a ledger behind every figure.

Common questions

Can we run this alongside our existing POS?

Yes — that is the usual case. The loyalty platform integrates with the point-of-sale system you already run, and we design explicitly for what the till should do when the platform cannot be reached.

How quickly can marketing change a campaign?

If the rules are modelled as configuration, same day and without a release. Getting there means deciding up front which dimensions of the rules need to be variable — that is a design conversation, not a technical limit.

How do you handle returns and cancelled purchases?

As reversals in the ledger, not as deletions. The original earning stays visible with a matching reversal, so a customer question about a missing balance can always be answered.
